New Richmond police chief reprimanded by city
The New Richmond City Council has issued a written reprimand to Police Chief Mark Samelstad as a result of a recent investigation into an alleged hostile work environment in the department.
The council approved the written reprimand at its April 19 meeting, but only released the minutes of that action Monday.
The council also approved an performance improvement plan for the chief.
The reprimand and improvement plan was to be issued May 10 and placed in Samelstad's personnel file, according to the minutes.
The council has also authorized attorney Ryan Steffes to try to negotiate a release and resignation agreement with Samelstad, if the chief expressed an interest in retirement.
All council motions were unanimously approved.
