New Richmond, Somerset, St. Croix Central football end regular season with wins
The New Richmond, Somerset and St. Croix Central football teams all end the 2013 regular season with wins on Friday night.
New Richmond played its first game on Osceola's new artificial turf. The Tigers trailed 14-7 at halftime, but came back to win 17-14 on a late field goal.
Somerset went down 12-0 in the first quarter to Durand. Somerset ruled the rest of the game, using a diverse offensive attack to beat Durand 38-19. With the win, Somerset had hopes of getting a share of the Middle Border Conference title, but Ellsworth beat Prescott in overtime to lock up the MBC title.
St. Croix Central and Colfax both needed wins to get into the WIAA playoffs from the Dunn-St. Croix Conference. Both teams came through. St. Croix Central steamrolled Elk Mound 41-6, while Colfax edged past Boyceville 18-14.
The WIAA playoffs begin next Friday and Saturday. The WIAA should be releasing the state playoff brackets early on Saturday.
