New Richmond U14 boys soccer wins state championship
The New Richmond U14 boys soccer team competed over the weekend in Rochester, Minn., through rain and strong winds, shutting out their competition to bring home the state title. They defeated Orono 6-1 and Champlin 3-0 before winning the championship round against Wayzata 3-0, making them MYSA State Champs. The New Richmond boys went undefeated this fall season (6-0) and were named 2012 East District Champs, giving them the opportunity to head to state. A group of U13 players and U14 players merged together this Fall to form the U14 team. They stomped out the competition in high scoring games, (9-0, 6-0, 4-1, 7-0, 7-1 and 3-0) with 38 goals for and two against. The team is made of sixth, seventh and eighth graders from New Richmond, Somerset, Baldwin and Amery.
