New Richmond water tower getting a facelift
New Richmond's downtown water tower is in the middle of a complete rehabilitation project.
Crew members with Jetco Limited have been busy at work on the top of the tower for the past several days, preparing the structure for sandblasting and painting.
Currently the crew is erecting a containment structure (think huge shower curtain) that will encircle the tower. The curtain will allow the sandblasting and painting to occur without disturbing nearby homes and businesses.
According to crew members, the entire project should take about two months to complete. Jetco will be paid $339,620 to clean the water tower inside and out, as well as repaint the structure (also inside and out).
The city received four other bids for the project and they were considerably higher (from $404,000 to $512,000 for the base bid).
The rehabilitation of the present tower will extend the life of the structure. Funds for the project will come from reserve funds within the New Richmond Utilities Department.
