New Richmond wrestlers place sixth at state

MADISON - Both of New Richmond's entries in the 71st WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament will come away with sixth places.

Shane Blackman will take sixth at 126 pounds in Division 1 and Derek Dowd will place sixth at 138 pounds, also in Division 1. Both wrestlers took part in placing matches this morning and afternoon.

It was another round of tough losses for Blackman. He lost his first match to Muskego's Austin Quartullo (38-4) by 6-5 score and then was beaten by MIlwaukee Riverside/Shorewood's Justin Folley 6-4 in the fifth place match. Folley became the first wrestler from Riverside to medal in 30 years. Blackman finishes the season with a record of 29-5.

Dowd was pinned by Stevens Point's Fritz Schierl (48-3) in 2:31 in his first match on Saturday.  He was beaten in the fifth place match by Waterford's Max Fisher (51-3) in another close decision, 5-3. He completes the season with at 36-10 overall.
