On to the next chapter: St. Croix Central Class of 2014 graduation
"We met as strangers, grew as classmates, and leave as friends."
This is the St. Croix Central High School Class of 2014 class motto, which was a theme evident through the commencement ceremony on Friday, May 23 at the Thomas Sempf Gymnasium.
School board members John Hueg, Kirk Lyksett and Scott DeGross awarded 102 students diplomas; 23 of those students were honors graduates, and 12 of them were members of the National Honor Society.
Salutatorian Austin Hanson and Valedictorian Melissa Schmidt-Landin addressed their fellow classmates, staff and families.
Hanson talked of many of his classmates, their contributions and attributes.
"If I had to do start all over again, I wouldn't change one thing, one person or one teacher," Hanson said.
Schmidt-Landin urged her classmates to be willing to make tough choices, and to be consistent with those choices.
"Difficulties in my life drove me because that is who I am," Schmidt-Landin said.
The SCC High School choir performed the songs Happy and You Cannot Lose My Love. A slideshow by class representative Katlyn Delander was presented. SCC High School principal Dr. Glenn Webb read a 214-word poem he wrote about the Class of 2014 before presenting them as graduates.
