'Night of Laughs' planned at two venues
A Night of Laughs, featuring three short, very funny plays by David Ives, is planned at The ArtBarn and The SPACE.
This series of short plays is directed by three local directors, features six local actors playing eight hilarious characters.
"The Philadelphia" presents a young man in a restaurant who has fallen into "a Philadelphia," a Twilight-Zone-like state in which he cannot get anything he asks for. His only way out of the dilemma? To ask for the opposite of what he wants. "The Philadelphia" is being directed by Beth Reidenbach of Hudson. The cast is made up of three local faces -- Bill Buell, Cheryl Rogers and Scott Moore.
"Words, Words, Words" recalls the philosophical adage that three monkeys typing into infinity will sooner or later produce Hamlet and asks: What would monkeys talk about at their typewriters? The play is being directed by Vicki Harmon of New Richmond. The cast of monkeys stars Mark Mayry, Bill Buell and Ellen Johnson.
"Universal Language" brings together Dawn, a young woman with a stutter, and Don, the creator and teacher of Unamunda, a wild comic language. Their lesson sends them off into a dazzling display of hysterical verbal pyrotechnics-and, of course, true love. Neil Johnson, of the St. Croix ArtBarn, is the director of "Universal Language" and playing Dawn and Don are Vicki Harmon and Mark Mayry.
A Night of Laughs opens at the St. Croix ArtBarn on Oct. 2. Performance dates are Oct. 2 and 3 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be reserved by calling 715-294-2787. The ArtBarn is located at 1040 Oak Ridge Dr., Osceola.
This production will then move to The SPACE Oct. 9, 10, 16 and 17. Showtime at The SPACE is 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $15 each. To reserve your ticket, contact The SPACE at 715-246-3180 or by visiting us online at www.thespaceforcreativity.com. The SPACE is located at 156 High St., New Richmond.
