Northwest announces more job cuts; added fees
Northwest Airlines says it's cutting 2,500 front-line and management jobs because of the dramatic run-up in fuel prices.
Spokeswoman Tammy Lee says Northwest will first try to achieve the cuts through voluntary means such as early retirements and attrition.
Lee adds reductions will be across the board and Minneapolis/St. Paul will not be unfairly disadvantaged over other markets.
In addition to the job cuts, Northwest will begin charging $15 to check a single piece of luggage, and in September it could cost up to $100 to redeem a frequent-flier award ticket.
