Funny, sad and endearing, "Charlotte's Web" tells a timeless story of friendship. Wilbur, a good little pig, makes friends with a spider named Charlotte, who lives in the rafters above his pen.

Wilbur is devastated when he discovers his fate is to become breakfast bacon. Determined to save her friend, Charlotte spins a trick that convinces the humans that Wilbur is some terrific and radiant pig and should be saved.

Weekday matinees will be performed for schools from all around Minnesota and Wisconsin throughout May and June. The schools bring their students to New Richmond for spring field trips where they enjoy local attractions such as the Heritage Center and Mary Park after their trip to the theater.

Old Gem Artistic Director Kathy Welch directs "Charlotte's Web." The show features members of the Old Gem Young Performers Ensemble, including Sophie Wallerich of Stillwater, Minn.; Keshia Johnson of River Falls; Jenna Richardson of Hudson; and Lauren Counter Skoglund, Melanie Greeley, Kinsey Novotne, Liam Mehls, Haley Viebrock and Braden Hanafee-Major, all of New Richmond.

The cast also includes Old Gem resident company members Rita Tredal of Roberts, Tom Monn of Woodbury, Minn. and Kara Greshwalk of Minneapolis.

Tickets are $11 for adult, $9 for students and seniors, $6.25 for groups of 20 or more. Weekday matinees for groups are available through June 12.
