One injured in Star Prairie vehicle crash
A Star Prairie man was hospitalized after crashing his vehicle into a tree on Thursday, Feb. 7.
Grant D. Brotzler, 22, of Star Prairie was arrested for operating while intoxicated-third offense, operating while revoked and failure to keep his vehicle under control after he lost control of his 2002 Chevy Impala on Hill Street in Star Prairie and smashed into a large pine tree.
According to Jeff Klatt, field services captain for the St. Croix County Sheriff's Department, Brotzler was traveling eastbound on Hill Street about 1:30 p.m. when he lost control of his vehicle near the Star Prairie Trout Farm. New Richmond Fire and Rescue was called to the scene to extricate Brotzler and he was taken to Westfields Hospital before being transferred to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minn. He was listed in serious condition as of Tuesday, Feb. 12.
Hill Street was closed for a short time while Brotzler was extricated from the vehicle.
It's unknown whether Brotzler was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Alcohol and speed were a factor in the crash, Klatt said.
