New Richmond High School students are gearing up for their performances of "Out of the Frying Pan," which will take place this weekend, April 8-10.

The comedy is set in the 1940s. Three young men and three young women are looking for their first big break in New York City in 1941. Out of economic necessity, they share an apartment strategically located directly over the apartment of a Broadway producer. Their plan is to lure him up to their apartment to witness first hand their talents with the hope that he will cast them all in his next play.

The play was written by Francis Swann, a playwright, novelist and a film and television writer.

Swann's inspiration for the play came from a 1939 LIFE magazine article about his sister and her roommates living in a New York apartment. The girls invited actors and producers into their apartment in hopes of getting their big break.

Several New Richmond students make up the cast:

Colton Simpson as George Bodell; Jocque Warner as Norman Reese; Shae Armstrong as Mrs. Garnet; Cameron Sorensen as Muriel Foster; Ben Johnston as Tony Dennison; Cheyanne Joachim as Kate Ault; Alisha Blackman as Marge Benson; Hannah Wheeler as Dottie Coburn; Charlie Kleiner as Mr. Coburn; River Simpson as Mr. Kenny; Mason Koch as Mac; and Tom Wanless as Joe.

Show times are April 8-9 at 7 p.m. and April 10 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are available at the door and are $10 for adults and $5 for students. At every performance a free pair of tickets to a Twin Cities theater will be given away.
