Packers return to practice after Saturday's cancellation
The Green Bay Packers return to practice this afternoon.
And even though some players were disappointed that Saturday's Family Night was canceled by thunderstorms, others were happy to get a breather.
Coach Mike McCarthy scaled back Friday's practice due to injuries and only 67 of his 80 players would have taken part in Saturday's full-speed scrimmage at Lambeau Field.
Sunday was a scheduled day off. And it came at the end of McCarthy's most physical camp opening in his four seasons in Green Bay.
Linebacker A.J. Hawk said the switch to a 3-4 defense has made the practices more physical.
And defensive coordinator Dom Capers has emphasized blitzing during a busy first week of workouts.
The Family Night scrimmage would have given the Packers their first live tackling of training camp, in front of more than 50,000 fans.
The latest word is that McCarthy will not have any live tackling this week which means they won't have that experience before Saturday night's home exhibition opener against the Cleveland Browns.
