Paperjack collects pennies

Students at Paperjack Elementary will participate in a penny drive from Feb. 23-27, to raise money for Empty Bowls, a fund-raiser aimed at ending local hunger.

The fourth and fifth grade "Tiger Pride Leaders" are hosting the fund-raiser.

Penny drives provide friendly competition between the grades. Each penny collected in a jar counts as one point; however, others can sabotage collections by donating other coins or dollar bills, which count as negative amounts.

At the end of the week, the pennies are added and the other coins are subtracted to determine a winner.

Students at Paperjack hope to collect $300 for Empty Bowls.
