"It was the best weekend weather the Park Art Fair we've had in recent history," said Russ Korpela, New Richmond Chamber executive director.

The 44th annual Park Art Fair and Blues and Brews Fest in Mary Park took place on Friday and Saturday, June 3-4. After the last couple of years having rain one of the days, the drizzle throughout Friday morning was not a welcome omen.

However, the rain stopped by noon and left the city with high humidity levels.

"We'll take the warmth over rain any day," laughed Korpela.

More than 150 vendors were in attendance for the art fair, selling everything from lawn ornaments to homemade teas.

"We never had one big surge of people," commented Korpela. "It was a steady stream throughout the weekend, which makes it perfect for our volunteer help."

By Saturday, the humidity had dropped off a bit, leaving sunny warm weather. Although the art fair "officially" closed by 4 p.m., many vendors were still helping customers afterward.

The Blues Fest portion of the weekend continued Saturday until 11 p.m., with live music from various bands and the brews tasting event. There was no cover charge for the concerts -- the only charge was for sampling the beer.

"Our reputation as a fun family blues event is growing," said Korpela of the 4-year-old festival. "The Blues

Fest grew by about 30 percent this year; we had a lot of tourists."
