Paul Swenby, 86
Paul Oscar Swenby, age 86, of New Richmond, Wis., died on Wednesday May 27, 2009 at his home.
He was born on Feb. 25, 1923 to Oscar and Mary (Murphy) Swenby in New Richmond. Paul was a lifelong resident and real estate and insurance agent in New Richmond.
He was the mayor of New Richmond for four terms (1955-1962). He was a New Richmond Public School Board member, Holy Family Hospital Board member, and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus. He was club president of the Kiwanis and a director at the First National Bank.
He was married to Marion Hed on March 11, 1946 until her death in 1978.
Paul was preceded in death by his grandson, Kevin; sisters, Katherine "Kate" Pederson and Margaret "Peg" Sager.
He is survived by his wife, Colleen; children Paul "Skip" (Rose) Swenby, Kyle (Kay) Zimmerman, Lynn (Joe) Guidote, Amy (Jim) Thompson; grandchildren, Josh, Dara, Abigail "Abby" and Emily; and also numerous nieces, nephew and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. was Monday, June 1, 2009 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 151 S. Washington Ave., New Richmond, Wis.
Visitation from 5-8 p.m. was Sunday at the St. Mary's School (gym), 257 S. Washington Ave., with prayer service at 5:30 p.m. A visitation was also held one hour prior to the service at the church. Father James Brinkman presided at the funeral.
His pallbearers were Mike Sager, Richard Pederson, Kirk Lindell, Denny Nybakken, Josh Guidote and John Soderberg. His honorary pallbearers were Bob Ahlin and Tom Stephens. Full military honors provided by the New Richmond American Legion Post 80.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that you donate to the needy or donor's choice. Interment will take place at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
