Pea Soup Days celebration is this weekend
This Thursday begins the annual Pea Soup Days weekend in Somerset.
Advanced tickets for the carnival rides went on sale Tuesday, June 8, and will be available until Thursday evening. Tickets are available at The Training Room (709 Rivard St.) and Econofoods (107 Parent St.) in Somerset.
Also, the Somerset Fire/Rescue pancake breakfast will be in a new location. Instead of at the Village Park, the meal will be set up in the Fire Hall, 748 Highway 35.
"We moved it to the fire station this year to get people in to the station, to see the trucks and the facility that we occupy," said Travis Belisle, fire chief. "And it's much easier for clean up, set-up and parade prep."
The event is a fundraiser for the department to buy a new Rescue One boat which Belisle said is identical to the boat Stillwater Rescue uses. Somerset Fire/Rescue currently uses an older inflatable Zodiac Boat with an 8 horsepower motor, but it recently began to fall apart.
"It truly doesn't fit our needs," Belisle said of the old boat. "With the St. Croix River and various other lakes we could possibly contend with, we've needed to look at better options."
The department is also holding a raffle with everything from gift certificates for gasoline, pizza and dinner to golf packages, bed liners and camping packages.
