Plane crash kills two in Stevens Point
Two people were killed when their single-engine plane crashed near the Stevens Point airport.
Witnesses reported a steep drop soon after the plane took off.
But police were not sure if it happened during the take-off, or if the plane was turning around to go back.
It happened about 5 p.m. Monday.
Police said there was a brief fire that consumed the aircraft and burned the two people inside.
The plane's male owner was killed. While his identity was withheld, officials said he was not from nearby Portage County.
The other person was not identified, but it appeared to be a male.
The Federal Aviation Administration is expected to start investigating the crash today to determine a cause.
