Public meeting scheduled on plans for county land
The public is invited to an information meeting regarding possible future uses for parts of the 82-acre St. Croix County Government Center site in Hudson.
The meeting -- which will be held 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, in the County Board room of the Government Center in Hudson -- will be hosted by Barsness Consulting Services.
The County Board hired Barsness Consulting last fall to develop a process that may lead to the sale of excess land around the Government Center. This meeting is part of that process.
"The net acres keep getting smushed down," said Barsness project manager Dennis Welsch, reporting to the Finance Committee last week. He said requirements for such things as parking, roads and ponding have cut into land that is available for development.
Supervisor Daryl Standafer suggested a meeting of "major players" -- such as representatives of the city of Hudson, schools, the YMCA and the county -- to get input on what they'd like to see done with the property.
Welsch said his company would work with county staff to host a stakeholder roundtable to allow representatives of the major players to briefly outline their visions for the area.
New Richmond land
Related to a similar issue, Dana Baker of the Finance Department said bid notices have gone out to 30 developers who might be interested in bidding on 18.569 acres of county-owned land in New Richmond.
The parcel was cut off from other "county farm" land when Highway 64 was rebuilt.
Finance Committee members also gave one developer permission to have soil borings taken, provided the results are made available to the county and other potential bidders.
"This is an attractive piece of property that is on the radar screen of people with vision," said Standafer of the New Richmond property, which is zoned commercial.
The bid deadline is March 28.
