Queen, princess selected for St. Croix County rodeo
The St. Croix Valley PRCA Rodeo Committee announced last week that Emily Deiss from Beldenville has been selected as the 2012 St. Croix Valley PRCA Rodeo Queen. Sharing royalty duties is Princess Terra Mitzel from Amery.
Deiss is a senior at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls majoring in equine management. Mitzel is a senior at Amery High School. Both are very active in women's barrel racing, a highly competitive speed event. Both women "love rodeo world's family atmosphere" commenting that cowboys are "really honest" and that participating in rodeo royalty is a great way to be "a positive role model for young women."
In addition to being an important part of the rodeo, both Deiss and Mitzel will be participating in area community festivals as well as regional rodeos.
The 2012 St. Croix Valley PRCA Rodeo will feature professional Ram Rodeo plus Jerry Olson and Justin Boots "Friendship Between Man & Horse."
There will be two 7:30 p.m. rain-or-shine performances on Friday, June 15, and Saturday, June 16, at the St. Croix County Fairgrounds and Fairplex, Glenwood City. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. both nights. A $2 gate discount is offered to all active and retired military personnel with valid ID.
Besides professional Ram Rodeo at its best, there are many family activities, including Muttin Bustin plus young wrangler calf and nickel scrambles as well as a Haunted House. In addition, Saturday night includes Fantasy Corral's Exotic Petting Zoo plus pony rides. All family events are free except the pony rides and the Haunted House. New this year is the official after-rodeo party at the Pump House.
