Red Kettle Campaign is a success
The Salvation Army of St. Croix County set a goal of raising $113,000 for this year’s Red Kettle Campaign, and with a final total of $113,043.81, the goal was met and surpassed thanks to the help of the many volunteers and contributors.
“It feels great to know that we were able to reach our goal this year,” said Duana Bremer, Salvation Army Social Services Director for St. Croix County. “Without the money we raise during the Red Kettle Campaign we would have to say no to the families who come to us for help with their rent or utilities.”
The money raised during the campaign will also go to help individuals and families with emergency medical, housing, utilities and food assistance right in communities throughout the county.
“Eighty-nine percent of the money we raise during the campaign stays in St. Croix County,” Bremer said.
Due to the cold weather this winter, the Salvation Army ran into trouble finding people to volunteer to ring the bells at area businesses. But in the end, the generosity of the people of St. Croix County allowed the Red Kettle Campaign to be a success.
“Without the $50,000 that we raise during the Marathon Ring this year in Hudson we would never have made it to our goal,” Bremer said. “We want to thank the merchants who allowed us to ring at their facilities and also thank those people who went out to ring the bells as well as those who gave to the campaign.”
For those who might have some interest in ringing the bells for the Salvation Army in the future, signups for next winter are already up on the Salvation Army of St. Croix County website. The Salvation Army is also looking for volunteers to sign up to ring bells this summer during a short “Christmas in July” campaign. According to Bremer, the Salvation Army is also looking for volunteers to help coordinate the bell ringing.
“It works better when we have volunteers who live in the geographical area of the campaigns because then they know the community and where might be best to ring the bells,” Bremer said. “We also need people to help schedule the bell ringing sessions, pick up the money and deliver it to the bank as well as set up and tear down the equipment.”
