Red Kettle effort successful in St. Croix County
The Red Kettle Campaign for the Salvation Army in St. Croix County bucked the national trend this holiday season.
According to Duana Bremer, county director, donations are more than $90,000 at the present time. Counter kettles have yet to be added to the total.
Bremer guessed that the campaign would surpass $95,000 once all the donations were gathered.
The local Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign goal was to collect $100,000 in donations this year.
"We ended up doing pretty good," Bremer said, noting that many Salvation Army efforts across the country suffered significant reductions in donations. "Thanks to the community, we're going to get close to our goal. We're excited."
The funds raised help the Salvation Army assist county residents who face emergencies.
The local Salvation Army organization offers financially-strapped families help with rent and utility payments, along with transportation and medication assistance.
