10-year-old dies in Minnesota sledding accident
DASSEL, Minn. - A 10-year old girl from North Carolina died Thursday after a sledding accident at her grandparents' home in rural Dassel.
According to the Meeker County Sheriff's office, emergency crews were called to the Craig and Barbara Kay residence in Dassel Township at 3:33 p.m. Thursday to a backyard sledding accident involving the couple's granddaughter, who was visiting from Fayetteville, N.C.
The girl had been sledding down a hill with other children in the backyard when her sled hit a raised stump and she was thrown from the sled, according to Meeker County Sheriff Jeff Norlin.
Gold Cross Ambulance transported the girl to Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield, where she died.
The children were under adult supervision and this appears to be a tragic accident, Norlin said.
Man dies in machinery accident in Alexandria
ALEXANDRIA, Minn. -- A 50-year-old Evansville man died in work-related machinery accident at the Pope Douglas Solid Waste Management facility Thursday night.
Alexandria police officers responded to the scene at 2115 Jefferson Street in Alexandria about 9 p.m. The initial report was that a man had fallen from a ladder.
Upon arriving, officers learned that an employee, Tim Allen Anderson, had been caught in a piece of machinery and was unconscious.
Officers and North Memorial Ambulance paramedics administered first aid but Anderson died at the scene.
