State Rep. Jeff Wood says he's about to enter a stricter and more rigid program to deal with his substance abuse.

Wood tells the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram he expects to report Thursday to the veterans' hospital in Saint Cloud, Minn., for 30 to 45 days of treatment.

The Chippewa Falls Independent says he wants to get his problem under control "before it kills me or someone else."

The 40-year-old Wood said he was on a day-pass from a looser in-patient rehab program at the VA Medical Center in Tomah last Wednesday, when he was arrested for his third OWI charge in 10 months.

He said he took an anti-anxiety pill before he left the facility, and while it was prescribed, it affected his driving.

He was also arrested near Wausau in late September for driving under the influence of prescription drugs. And he was arrested last December for drunken driving and possessing marijuana near Portage.

Wood said he will not have day passes at his St. Cloud rehab and his family can only see him on Sundays for lunch.

He said he was happy to get into a tougher program. Wood is scheduled to return to Monroe County Circuit Court Nov. 9 on his latest charges.

Wood says he won't run for a fifth two-year term next year.

He says he won't quit now, even though a petition remains pending in the Assembly to expel him.
