Roberts board unanimously accepts resignation of police chief
Following a closed door session at last night’s board meeting, the Roberts Village Board unanimously accepted the resignation of Police Chief Dan Burgess effective immediately.The motion was made by Trustee Terry Dull and seconded by Trustee Don Gerhardt. Burgess, who had been serving as chief of the Roberts Police Department since November 2009, would only say he accepted an offer elsewhere. The board did not announce any immediate steps to fill the vacancy according to Village Clerk Doreen Kruschke.
Angi Goodwin of Ayres Associates walked the board through drawings detailing the extensive construction project scheduled to begin on Maple and Park streets right after Good Neighbor Days. To accommodate a new sidewalk and a double width of roadway on Maple Street, the parking spaces in front of the village hall will be relocated roughly seven feet closer to the building, requiring the relocation of several trees to the park. The project will require an expansion of easement along Maple Street and new easement along a small section of Park Street. The new configuration of Park Street will allow for parking only on the park side of the street.
“We have plugged through our bid list and our unit quantities and unit prices and we are right on the budget numbers we had established earlier so we do feel you will come within the budget you financed for,” Goodwin said.
She expects to release final plans for bidding by March 19 and hopes to have bids available for the board’s review at their April meeting.
Several residents living on Meadow Lane appealed to the board for help with recurring flooding issues on their property. Despite numerous attempts to address the issue including the removal of obstructions impeding the flow of runoff and regrading, the problem persists. The Division Street reconstruction project and addition of a new culvert only seems to have intensified the problem. At Village President Willard Moeri’s request, Goodwin agreed to have an associate visit the site to see what might be done to help resolve the problem.

- The board approved Spring Clean Up Days to take place from April 19 - May 17.
- The board approved L&M’s St. Patrick Day Parade for Saturday, March 15.
- The board approved the Business Plan of Operation for the Stitchin Post.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Village of Roberts Board will take at place at 7 p.m., Monday, April 14.
