A brand-new McDonald's has opened in Roberts.

The restaurant, attached to the Pilot Flying J gas station at the intersection of 70th Avenue and Highway 65 (and near the Highway 65 and Interstate 94 exchange), officially opened on Jan. 10, but grand opening promotions are still ongoing, said store owner Patrick Deval.

Deval, who co-owns the store with his father James, said the promotions include an ongoing raffle for a 32-inch flat-screen TV and McDonald's Arch Cards.

Store manager Monica Elliot said the raffle has been very popular. She said the store is also donating $0.25 to the Roberts Area Food Pantry for every item sold from the extra value menu through Jan. 24.

Deval said there would be a minimum donation of $1,000.

"We just think it's a great way to kind of give back to the community," Deval said. "I think there's such a need that it's great to be able to help out."

While the new McDonald's is attached to the Pilot Flying J gas station, Deval said it has everything a freestanding McDonald's does, from the menu to the restaurant itself. But, he said, the restaurant might look a little bit different from the average McDonald's, and not just because it's attached to a gas station.

"It's got all the latest and greatest bell and whistles," Deval said. He said the new restaurant has digital menu boards, a couple of TVs in the lobby playing the news for people to watch and free Wi-Fi.

Because the Flying J gas station is open 24 hours, the new McDonald's will also be open 24 hours a day, Deval said. He said the lobby, not just the drive through, will be open at all times. Deval said he and his father own nine other McDonald's in the Twin Cities area and western Wisconsin and have many restaurants that are open 24 hours a day. But this restaurant is the first that will have the lobby open 24 hours a day.

"Because of the agreement we have with Pilot (Flying J), it makes more sense," Deval said.

Depending on how things go, Deval said he and his father may consider opening some of their other locations' lobbies 24 hours a day.

The new restaurant employs 63 crew and nine managers. Most of the crew members are from within the Roberts community, Deval said.

"We're pleased with how things have gone so far, the reception we've received," Deval said, "and look forward to great things in the future."
