Hunched over a local woman's hands, Peter Tran diligently worked her fingernails into perfection with a dark red polish.
His finishing touch was quickly free-hand painting a snowflake on both of her ring finger nails.
"I'm not an artist," Tran modestly said.
Rose Nails, located at 729 N. Knowles Ave. in New Richmond, recently opened under the management of Peter Tran, Ryan Hoang and Jeannie Tran.
It's a true family business. Hoang and Jeannie are married, and Peter is Jeannie's brother.
Customers should expect changes from the previous management, Hoang said. New products and services are being offered and more improvements are planned for the future.
Service will be faster under their management, said Hoang. All three of them are trained and licensed in nail technology, and will be working at the business.
They have expanded the list of services as well, Hoang said.
Rose Nails now offers eyebrow waxing for $10.
The Deluxe Pedicure is another new item. It includes a sea salt rub and a hot towel soak. Cost for that is $38.
Hoang said they specialize in powder gel nails.
"The nails last longer and are stronger," he explained.
Nail art will be both air brushed and freehanded by the three owners.
Experience isn't lacking, Jeannie said. Both her and Hoang have about 10 years of experience in the nail industry. Peter said he's been a nail technician for six years.
Hoang and Jeannie previously owned a nail salon in Orange County, Calif.
Don't expect stories about working with famous people though.
"There they go to Hollywood, not Orange County," Jeannie said.
The couple moved to New Richmond about two weeks ago, Jeannie said. It was the first time she, Hoang and their two daughters saw snow, she said. Peter had been living in the Twin Cities.
Both appointments and walk-ins are welcome. They have gift certificates for sale.
Rose Nails' hours are 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Sundays they will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 715-246-4688 for more information or to make an appointment.
