Sawyer County remains that of mission woman from Taylor County, murder suspected
Human remains found this past weekend in Sawyer County were those of a Taylor County woman missing for three and one-half months.
For the first time today (Tuesday), authorities confirmed she was murdered.
Jean Viken, 39, disappeared from her home Jan. 29 in the town of Holway, and her van was found in February in a forest in Ashland County.
Investigators suspected foul play at the time.
Taylor County Chief Deputy Larry Woebbeking said Viken's remains were discovered about 20 miles from where he van was spotted.
The official also said there are several persons of interest in the case.
Trout fishermen found the woman's remains.
A forensic team identified them as Viken's. They said she died from a gunshot wound.
