Middle School art teacher Kim Knutson is responsible for getting the event started two years ago. She opens up her classrooms on Sunday afternoons for several weekends inviting kids and parents from the community to come in and learn how to throw a bowl for hunger.

Elementary Art teacher Jason Rohde explained, "Every student and adult that made a bowl knew it would be up for auction and the money would go to the Roberts Food Shelf. You can't really go wrong with a hand made piece of pottery for $5."

Rohde teamed up with Knutson, High School Art teacher Jordee Reimer and FFA Coordinator Bill Emery to help coordinate the event.

"It gets the students artwork out there and we help the hungry, so it a win-win for everyone," Reimer said.

Participants who made bowls were encouraged to attend the auction to see their hard work pay off.

The bowls were sold at the event for a minimum donation of $5.

The evening's festivities included dinner and desert but certainly the highlight of the evening belonged to school Superintendent David Bradley who showed off his skills as an auctioneer selling off one bowl after another to a highly motivated and entertained audience.

"Kim Knutson's the one responsible for tonight and unfortunately she's ill and couldn't be here. But it's a great way to bring community and school together, have fun and do something that's certainly worthwhile," Bradley said.
