On July 4, they will host the St. Croix Valley Pullers, LLC at the track in Hammond. Pulling will begin at 6 p.m. and end whenever they run out of tractors. Cost is $5 for general admission, children under five are free.

Event organizer D.J. Cowles said there will be a concession stand serving hotdogs, brats, hamburgers and pop. There will be a beer stand as well.

Cowles said he and the other organizers, Wayne Miller, Kay Zwald and Bill Emery wanted to do a tractor pull because it corresponds closely to what FFA is about.

He said anyone, from competitive pullers to hobbyists, can sign up. Pullers are asked to be there by 5:30 p.m.

Tom Larson from the St. Croix Valley Pullers LLC said, "anyone can be in it that has a tractor."

The starting weight is 5,500 pounds. Larson added that if five or more tractors from a different class than they usually have show up, they will be able to pull.

Cost to participate in the pulling is $20 for St. Croix Valley Pullers members and $25 for non-members.

Cowles said he and Emery discussed hosting a tractor pull for a few years to get FFA Alumni going again. Eventually, they decided this was the year to do it.

All years of FFA alumni are invited to join in the planning and are encouraged to attend the event. Cowles said they want to get "the full circle" of FFA alumni involved in the Pull.

The proceeds of the pull will go to a scholarship for graduating St. Croix Central FFA seniors.

Cowles said he hopes the SCC FFA Alumni won't wait another 10 years to organize themselves again. He hopes to have enough events to continue having the scholarship fund.

Cowles encourages everyone to come out for the pull. "Come have a great time and support the FFA," he said.
