Public service experience: Current board member - School District of New Richmond with nearly three years experience.

I remain motivated to provide a trustworthy and objective voice and am seeking voter support to allow me to serve our community in this capacity for another three years.

What do you feel are the top three issues facing your school district?:

Continued focus on the board goals and action plan which include:

1. Providing up-to-date facilities that meet the long-range needs of students and the community.

2. Ensuring students at all ability levels achieve their fullest potential.

Name: Bryan D. Schafer

Office seeking: School board - School District of New Richmond

Age: 45

Family: Wife, Janell; daughter, Keri; and son, Connor.

Public service experience: Current school board member for 2.5 years and 25 year veteran of law enforcement currently assigned to the Minneapolis Police Department Juvenile Division.

Why are you seeking election?: The future of this community lies in the education of our children. I want to continue to contribute to that end by bringing a common-sense approach to the board. Keeping a watchful eye on finances during these economic times, yet ensuring that our building projects and educational goals move forward is a difficult task. I am up to the task and to this point, believe I have fulfilled my promises to the community in that realm.

What do you feel are the top three issues facing your school district?:

1. I believe the current economic downturn is the top issue facing this district. Making smart financial choices, keeping operational costs down and balancing that with the needs of our children is key.

2. We must continue to focus on student achievement, making more options available so our students can compete globally.

3. It is important that our building projects stay on schedule and meet the highest of standards.
