Scouts gear up for conservation event
A crowd of Boy Scouts will converge on Oak Ridge Waterfowl Production Area near Star Prairie on Saturday, Oct. 22, to participate in a conservation day of service.
The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service office in New Richmond invited the Eagle River Scouts to pitch in for a day and help out with various tasks.
Check in starts at 9 a.m. with the closing ceremony at 6 p.m. Lunch will be provided. All participants will receive a special patch. There will be special presentations throughout the day on native and invasive plants and animals.
Troops and crews are invited to camp at the nearby McMutrie Preserve on Friday and Saturday night. Cost is only $2 per person (to cover material and food costs).
Participants are asked to bring work gloves. All other equipment will be provided. All participants under 18 will need a signed copy of the parental permission form.
