Showcase event set

The fourth annual Showcase Hammond is set for Saturday, March 16, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Croix Central High School.

Michelle Johnson, who helped coordinate the showcase, said the event, dedicated to promoting local businesses, is important because it gives locals an idea of what products and services are offered in the area.

"Buying local is important for any community, so this is a way for people to get to know what is in our community...that they may be able to utilize," Johnson said.

Johnson said 60 vendors have registered so far. Among them are the Hammond Golf Club, Heartland Café, Ras' on Main, the Hammond Lions Club, C&T Siding, Tastefully Simple, Jamberry Nails, Body by Vi and Scentsy. Johnson said local restaurants will also be serving dishes for attendees to taste.

Johnson said all attendees are given a card upon arrival that can be used to enter to win an iPad Mini, Apple iPod Touch or a new television.

Johnson said a few local businesses will be at the showcase, and Thunder Country 95.7-FM will be broadcasting live from the showcase from 10 a.m. to noon. Johnson said this is a first for Showcase Hammond and for the new radio station.

Johnson said she hopes the showcase will encourage people to shop locally.

"It ensures that businesses will be around if we continue to purchase locally," Johnson said. "Stop in and see our local businesses."
