SHS student expelled for bringing knife to school
A Somerset High School student who accidentally brought a knife to school in their backpack was expelled from the school during a special meeting of the Somerset Board of Education last Wednesday.
School District Administrator Randy Rosburg said that while the folding knife was accidentally brought into the school, an expulsion was warranted.
“Because of the consequence, the board had to take some action. It’s important that they send a reasonable action,” Rosburg said.
A process was set in place where the student can eventually return to the high school. Among the steps is the student writing an essay on the rationale for not allowing knives or weapons on the school grounds. If those steps are completed, the student would be allowed into the alternative education program at the high school.
Rosburg said that if all the steps in the process are completed, the student could return to regular status at the high school by the start of the second semester.
