Sleepy driver ends up in Red Cedar River

On Sunday, Dec. 30, at approximately 5:39 a.m., the Wisconsin State Patrol responded to a single vehicle crash on Interstate 94 westbound, at the Red Cedar River (milepost 43.5).

Daniella L. Overett, age 21, of Elko, Minn., was traveling westbound on I-94 and said that she dozed off. When Overett woke up, her vehicle had entered the median just before the Red Cedar River.

Overett's vehicle continued into the median, struck the side of the eastbound bridge then traveled over the embankment and landed on

the ice in the Red Cedar River. The vehicle was partially submerged and Overett was able to exit the vehicle with her 23-month-old daughter.

Overett was not injured and her daughter sustained a few scratches and bruises from the crash. The left lane (Lane #1), eastbound, was closed to

remove the vehicle.
