A soldier from Chippewa County has been missing for a week.
Authorities said Russell Plummer, 20, of Cornell has had no contact with friends or family since last Tuesday, he did not show up for his scheduled National Guard duty, and he has not used his cell phone, ATM card or credit cards.
His vehicle was found last Friday in a state forest near Cornell.
A friend removed it Saturday, and the front license plate was missing.
Sheriff Jim Kowalczyk said Plummer might have put the plate on another vehicle and drove off.
His officers are checking tips that Plummer might have gone to Georgia to see some friends.
He had recently returned to northwest Wisconsin after graduating from basic training at Fort Jackson in South Carolina.
Foul play is not suspected. Those with information are asked to call the Chippewa County Sheriff's Department.
