Somerset four to all place at state wrestling meet
MADISON - Somerset's medal total from the 69th WIAA State Individual Wrestling will be a perfect four-for-four.
All of the Spartans' wrestlers made it through the morning and afternoon sessions at the Kohl Center, assuring four place winners.
Haydon Dvorak is in the semifinals after winning his 182-pound match 5-2 over Brady Huenink of Waupun. Dvorak got a late reversal and Huenink did the same to him in the third period. He will face Chilton's Austin Hephner (Sr. 46-2) with the round starting at 7 p.m.
Dvorak will be joined by teammate Gabe Flandrick at 138. He blcoked a late takedown attempt by Valders's Stetson McCalley and in turn got the winning takedown on the edge of the mat in the third period for a 4-2 win. Flandrick's next opponent is Alex Schramm of Seymour (Sr. 26-6)
Wrestling in the placing matches tomorrow will be Bobby Leroy at 120 and Austin Bushinger at 152. Both were pinned in the quarterfinals. Bushinger was cradled in a small package after getting in a single-leg shot on defending state champ Lucas Lambrecht of Sheboygan Falls while Leroy was ahead 6-3 in the first period when Ryan Costello of Campellsport caught him in a throw attempt and pinned him with just :11 seconds to go.
But both Somerset wrestlers came back to win their consolation round matches. Leroy decisioned Adam Niehaus of Belmont/Platteville 10-7 and Bushinger decisioned Austen Vosters of Freedom 7-4. Both wrestlers will be wrestling again starting at 11 a.m. Saturday for 3-6th place.
