Playing the WIAA Division 2 regional tournament at one of the least forgiving golf courses in the area reflected in the scores for all the teams involved.

The Division 2 tournament was played at the Luck Golf Course. Somerset was able to take third place in the tournament, qualifying for this Tuesday’s sectional tournament on the Spartans’ home course. St. Croix Central also had two girls qualify for the sectional tournament.

Osceola won the regional tournament with a score of 393. Prescott was a distant second at 437, followed by Somerset at 443. Baldwin-Woodville got the fourth sectional bid by shooting 471, five strokes ahead of St. Croix Central.

Prescott’s Megan Westerberg was the medalist in the regional tournament, shooting a 92. Just six girls were able to keep their score under 100 in the tournament.

Somerset coach Bill Powers said the girls understood how difficult the Luck course was and made the necessary adjustments. Somerset junior Stacy Bracht tied for fourth in the tournament by shooting a 98.

Seniors Meghan Wolner and Rachel Briggs finished at 111 and 115, with Cally Meixner shooting 119 and Ally Wittstock 120. Wolner’s 111 placed 10th in the regional field.

Powers said the Spartans’ goal was to take second place in the regional meet but Prescott snuck ahead of them. He said he hopes the Spartans can produce a better showing on their home course for the sectional tournament.

“Hopefully we can shoot our best score of the year. There are no dominant girls or teams so it should be interesting,” Powers said. “The girls are a little more comfortable here (Bristol Ridge), but we need to shoot our best to do any damage.”

St. Croix Central seniors Katlyn Delander and Janelle Olson advanced to the sectional meet as individual qualifiers, meaning they were among the top four girls who weren’t part of the four teams that advanced to the sectional meet.

Delander had the ninth best score in the regional tournament, shooting a 108. Olson qualified for the sectional by shooting a 117 at Luck.

Central’s other scores were a 121 from Brittany Nabors, a 130 from Emma Landry and a 132 from Becca Isnardi.
