Somerset golfers advance, New Richmond gets two golfers into sectional meet

The Somerset boys golf team and two members of the New Richmond team will be competing in WIAA sectional tournaments next Tuesday.

Somerset's boys advanced by taking third place at the Division 2 regional tournament the Spartans hosted at Bristol Ridge Golf Club on Wednesday.

New Richmond took fifth place at the Division 1 tournament which the Tigers hosted at the New Richmond Golf Club on Wednesday. The top four teams advance to the sectional tournament. New Richmond was able to get junior Kole Hallmark and senior Connor McCann to the sectional level as individual players.

Hallmark tied for fourth in the regional tournament by shooting a 77. The top spot was shared by three golfers who each shot 74. McCann shot one of the best rounds of his career to advance to sectionals, shooting an 80. New Richmond's other scores were an 83 by Thomas McKinney, an 87 by Tanner Wisemiller and a 103 by Jack Leverentz.

Somerset shot a 346 to finish third in Wednesday's Division 2 regional. Osceola won the tournament with a 330 score. The next teams were bunched together with Altoona at 344, Somerset 346, Ellsworth 348 and Amery 350. St. Croix Central finished seventh among the 10 teams with a 383 score.

Somerset was led in the tournament by senior Danny Green, who shot an 80. Hunter Iverson and Wil Gauper both finished at 86. Alex Lahde shot a 94 and Zach Bahr a 96.

St. Croix Central was led by senior Jonah Tczap, who shot a 90.
