Somerset has new softball, track coaches
Somerset has new softball and boys track varsity coaches, though neither is really new to the Somerset sports scene.
Carrie Kjellberg has been hired as the Spartan varsity softball coach. She replaces Jen Nickowski, who resigned after last season.
Kjellberg has been an assistant coach in the Spartan softball program the past two seasons. She has also spent six years as an assistant coach in the Somerset volleyball program.
Kjellberg is a graduate of St. Croix Central High School. Kjellberg said it is her goal to focus on developing the fundamental skills of the players in the Spartan softball program.
The new boys track coach is Diane Belter, who also serves as the Somerset cross country coach. Belter replaces Erik Olson, who resigned after one season to concentrate on college coursework he has undertaken.
Belter has been the Somerset cross country coach since 1997. She has been a volunteer assistant with distance runners on the track team the past two seasons. Nathan Klinger will be Belter's assistant coach, as he was in cross country last fall.
The first practice for the track team was on Monday.
