Somerset ice fishing contest set for Feb. 23
The fourth annual Somerset Youth Athletic Association Ice Fishing Contest is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 23, on Bass Lake in rural Somerset.
The contest will run from noon to 3 p.m. that day. More than $50,000 in prizes will be available.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. that day. Pre-registration can also be done on-line. There are two Web sites that have information on the tournament, including registration details:
Fifty prizes will be awarded in the adult division of this year's tournament. The top prize will be a 2008 Chevy Silverado 4x4 pickup truck, valued at $28,000.
There will also be a youth division, for those ages 15 and under. The top two prizes in the youth division will be Nintendo Wii entertainment systems.
Those who pre-register for the tournament will be entered in a drawing for a $1,000 Outdoor Expeditions guide service package. This is a catch-and-release format tournament.
Gander Mountain will again serve as the main sponsor for the tournament. Last year's tournament winner was James Moe of Roberts, who took home a 2007 Ford F-150 pickup truck as the tournament's top prize. He won the tournament by catching a 2.7-pound northern pike.
