Somerset ice fishing tournament has date moved up one month
There's a new date for this year's Somerset Youth Athletic Association Ice Fishing Contest.
This year's tournament, the ninth annual, will be held on Saturday, Jan. 26, on Bass Lake.
The tournament had previously held late in February. Dave Praschak, spokesman for the association, said the move was made for several reasons. He said the ice quality should be better in January and temperatures should be more suitable for ice fishing. The late February date also conflicted with the high school tournament season in several sports. The January date will allow all of the Somerset High School athletic programs to participate in the fishing contest.
The prize list for the fishing contest will be the same as last year, with 50 prizes to be available. The top prize is $10,000. All prizes will be awarded, no matter how many fish are caught.
Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with the contest running from noon-3 p.m. In the adult division, each hole costs $30. There will also be a youth division, for kids 15 years old and younger, with a hole fee of $10. There are 10 prizes available in the youth division.
Tickets are being pre-sold at B&J Hardware in Somerset and Russell's Sport 'N Bike in Star Prairie.
