Somerset's Brock Montpetit signs with New York Islanders farm team
Somerset native Brock Montpetit has completed his college hockey career and quickly made the jump to professional hockey.Montpetit played his first pro hockey game on Sunday for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League. The Tigers are the top farm team of the New York Islanders. Montpetit signed a 10-game contract which he hopes will lead to the Islanders signing him to a two-way contract for next season. Montpetit wore jersey number 72 for his pro debut. One of the Bridgeport goals was scored by Ryan Walters, who was Montpetit's collegiate teammate at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. It was Walters' first professional goal. Bridgeport lost the game 4-2.
