St. Anne's plans dinner events
If you are interested in food and fun, the folks at St. Anne's have two events this week.
The first is their third annual Oktoberfest at the Somerset American Legion Hall on Friday, Oct. 24 from 7-10:30 p.m. Gausthaus Bavarian Hunter restaurant in Stillwater will cater the event again this year. Beer and wine tasting, as well as a live auction, are also planned.
Of course, the Oktoberfest wouldn't be complete without playing Hammerschlagen - a traditional game where contestants try to hammer their nail into a cross-section of tree trunk with the least amount of turns.
The Home and School organization is sponsoring this event. Tickets are $35 per person.
The second event is a spaghetti dinner sponsored by the 7th and 8th grade students on Wednesday, Oct. 29 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the St. Anne's Church. The sit-down meal consists of salad, spaghetti, bread and dessert. The dinner is a free will offering - proceeds help defray costs for the students' trip to Washington D.C. in the summer.
"It's quite a trip," Lisa Esselman, organizer of the event, said. "They go every two years and they take in a lot over those four days."
There are approximately 25 students in the 7th and 8th grades at St. Anne's. Therefore, they have numerous fundraising activities in the works, such as selling $5 Herberger's coupon books, organizing bake sales and another spaghetti dinner - possibly around Valentine's Day.
