St. Croix County under winter advisory through Tuesday
The National Weather Service in Twin Cities/Chanhassen has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for for a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain for St. Croix County and much of western Wisconsin.
The advisory will be in effect from 10 p.m. this evening (Monday) to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Heavy snow and strong winds are expected across much of west central and central Minnesota from Monday evening through Tuesday night as a storm system lifts northeast from The Rockies across the northern and Central Plains, according to the National Weather Service.
There is expected to be a sharp gradient in the total snowfall amounts and precipitation type. At present, the forecast for that area is for 2 to 6 inches of snow with the potential for some freezing rain and sleet as well. This may lead to hazardous travel conditions Tuesday morning if freezing rain becomes the predominate precipitation type. By the afternoon, most areas within the advisory will have changed over to rain before changing back to snow Tuesday night.
