St. Paddy's parade slated for Saturday
Soon New Richmond streets will be lined with green in celebration of St. Patrick's Day.
The annual St. Patrick's Day Parade is scheduled for Saturday, March 17, and will begin at 2 p.m. in front of McCabe's Shamrock Club, 123 W. Third St.
"The most important thing for people to know is that it's at 2 p.m. this year," said MaryBeth Driscoll, parade organizer. "Because St. Patrick's Day is on the weekend this year we have it earlier."
Driscoll said the earlier start time makes it easier for those with families and parade participants with horses.
"It's easier for those with horses to get home before dark," she said.
The parade will follow the same route as the past few years. The parade will proceed to South Knowles and head north two blocks. At West First Street, the route will turn and continue to Washington Avenue, past
Immaculate Conception Church and St. Mary's School and then head east on Third Street back to McCabe's.
This year's parade is expected to last between 45 minutes and an hour.
Among this year's entries will be local Irish families, the bagpipers from St. Paul, Minn., the Minneapolis unicyclists, animals and many more.
The parade will go on no matter what the weather, Driscoll said.
Immediately following the parade, McCabe's will host Hare's Ear, a local band that features a unique take on traditional Irish music.
