Star Prairie picnic area made whole
The Town of Star Prairie has acquired a small slice of a picnic area they thought they already owned from St. Croix County for $1.
The picnic area, which sits across the street from the Outpost Bar and Grill and is nestled between the Apple River and the old town hall, was always thought to be the Town's property.
That is, until a Town Board member checked into the property's ownership and discovered that a small slice of it actually still belonged to the County.
"It's a little strip of land we've been cutting and maintaining for years," said Town Chair Doug Rivard. "When the county found out about it they were really nice about turning it over to us."
A motion to transfer ownership from the County to the Town for $1 was approved by the St. Croix County Transportation Committee Sept. 9.
