State fair attendance slightly down from last year
Maybe we see the state fair as cheap entertainment.
Despite the recession, or maybe because of it, attendance at the just-completed 2009 Wisconsin State Fair totaled 833,000.
That's down slightly from last summer, but not much.
Fair officials promoted the 11-day run as an alternative for families which didn't want to spend big bucks to go away for the summer.
Vendors do say the fairgoers weren't spending as much this year.
The fair got some nationwide attention for one of the vendors who was selling chocolate-covered bacon on a stick.
