Stay and Play: More options for farmers' markets
New Richmond Wisconsin 127 South Knowles Avenue 54017

A sure sign of summer is fresh garden produce.

For those who don't have gardens of their own, there are several farmers' markets in the area. The newest being the Somerset Farmer's Market and Craft Sale at the Apple River Family Campground (ARFC) located at 345 Church Hill Road.

According to Mary Schmidt, marketing and sales for ARFC, the campground is acting merely as the host for the community market.

"The general manager is an avid camper and loves flea markets," said Schmidt. "He wanted to have a flea/farmer's market and we saw there was outside interest."

"The Somerset Lions, library and Magpie's Coffeehouse all wanted to have a farmer's market," she continued. "Now they are happy we are doing it and they are even sending people our way."

The market started May 15 and runs each Sunday morning from 8 a.m. - noon throughout the summer. They currently have 12 vendors, with some on a waiting list.

Schmidt said they try to have a good balance of products for sale, ranging from fresh produce and plants to homemade crafts.

They even have a booth reserved for non-profit groups and community service groups that want to do some fundraising. To date, the Buds Garden Club and Gregory's Gift of Hope have used the booth.
