Stevens Point police try to figure out shooting that cause school lockdown
Stevens Point Police are trying to get to the bottom of a shooting incident that left a man hospitalized and a nearby school locked down for a time.
A 50-year-old man was shot in the head just after 3 p.m. Tuesday near a park close to Stevens Point Area Senior High School.
Police said a 23-year-old woman was apprehended in Plover about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. She was described as a person of interest, and was not immediately confirmed to be the shooter.
The victim was flown to a Marshfield hospital. His name and condition were not immediately released.
The State Crime Lab is helping Stevens Point Police gather evidence.
The school was locked down while authorities searched the area for a suspect, but the search ended after the person had apparently left the area.
Police Chief Jeff Morris says there's no immediate threat to the public.
