Email

It was two months ago today when University of Wisconsin-Madison student Brittany Zimmermann was killed in her downtown apartment.

Police still have no suspects.

They released all but two of the 36 transient men they hauled in for questioning.

The Wisconsin State Journal reports the two remaining detainees - Jeffrey Ball, 48, and Thomas Cosgrove, 51, - got into trouble after they were arrested in April.

The paper said both men are diagnosed with mental problems and both had knives when they were arrested.

Ball was accused of trespassing at a Madison office building about eight hours after Zimmermann was killed and causing problems at a homeless shelter. He allegedly got into a brawl with Dane County sheriff's deputies after he was brought in.

The State Journal said Cosgrove was first arrested March 23 as part of a group camping at the Vilas Communications Hall, and he was arrested for the same thing two days after the Zimmermann killing.

Cosgrove had lived in the U.S. for only a few months and he faces deportation after allegedly breaking immigration laws.

He told the paper his arrest was part of a plot in England to kill him and he wants to stay and become a naturalized citizen.
